Looking for a co-founder? Post your intro using this template

This is the required format for co-founder search threads in this category. Threads that skip it get an edit request before publishing — not to be bureaucratic, but because five years of watching these threads elsewhere shows that structured intros get responses and vibes-based ones don't.

The template

Copy this into a new thread submission:

• Who I am: name or consistent handle, location, timezone.
• What I bring: concrete skills with evidence (shipped products, repos, revenue, domain years — links beat adjectives).
• The project: one paragraph. Stage (idea / prototype / revenue), what exists today, what's live.
• Who I'm looking for: the specific gap. "Technical co-founder" is too vague — name the stack or the function.
• Commitment: hours per week you're putting in, and what you expect from them. Nights-and-weekends and full-time are both fine; mismatch is not.
• Terms: how you're thinking about equity and vesting, even roughly. "To be discussed" is allowed; "50/50 with standard 4-year vesting, open to discussion" is better.
• First step: what working together starts with — a call, a scoped trial project, a design doc review.

Worked example — this is an illustration, not a real post

Who I am: J.D., Denver, MT time. What I bring: 6 years selling into property management; built a working prototype with Claude and Replit — link in profile. The project: lease-abstraction tool for small landlords. Prototype processes real leases; 9 pilot users, no revenue yet. Who I'm looking for: engineer to own reliability and the integration layer (TypeScript, Postgres) as the AI-generated codebase grows past what I can maintain. Commitment: I'm full-time. Looking for 20+ hrs/week moving to full-time if pilots convert. Terms: near-equal equity, 4-year vesting with 1-year cliff, for both of us. First step: two-week paid trial project — the lease-parser rewrite — then decide.

What we've seen make intros work elsewhere, distilled from researching hundreds of these threads across founder communities before designing this template:

• Evidence beats intention. A prototype link, however rough, outperforms any description of one.
• The "terms" line filters for seriousness both ways. Posts silent on equity attract people who also haven't thought about it.
• Named commitment is the strongest filter. Most co-founder splits we read about trace back to an hours mismatch that was knowable on day one.

One addition from my own experience on both sides of this: put your failure mode in the intro. "I start strong and drift when traction is slow" or "I over-engineer" tells a potential partner more than your skills list, and the people who respond well to that honesty are disproportionately the ones worth partnering with. It also sets the tone for the relationship you actually want — one where problems get named early.

Follow-up from maker intake: "Should I name my idea publicly in the intro, or keep it vague until I trust someone?"

Name it. Vague posts ("stealth AI project in a huge market") get vague responses. The realistic risk isn't idea theft — execution and distribution are the scarce parts — it's that a describable idea attracts the wrong-fit responders, which is a much cheaper mistake to make in public than three months into a partnership. Keep secret only what is genuinely hard-won: proprietary data, specific customer names, pricing you've validated.
